Menswear At Ease – J.Crew S/S2014

- Fashion

This season I’ve been into easy dressing and very basic colour palette. I love my grey, navy, black and white. Occasionally a pop of loud colour and prints may appear in my outfit but recently, (as some of my long-time followers may notice) I’ve been pretty subtle in my choices. Some may like it, and I’ve heard some are less than impressed, but my life has been pretty hectic at the moment, and my outfit choices reflect it very well, as it should be.

Easy-dressing doesn’t have to be sloppy, and it shouldn’t ever be. With everyone being busier than ever these days, the last thing you want to do is spend hours and hours figuring out what to wear. Which is why I think J.Crew’s collection for Spring/Summer 2014 is brilliant and on point by making it easier for men (at least majority of men) to look sharp and well put together with minimal effort.

The collection offers an easy-to-match colour palette, some neutrals and very subtle patterns, classic tailoring and familiar silhouettes that men wouldn’t shy away from. Even the good old shirt & tie combo is simplified. There’s less pattern and colour mixing, instead, monochromatic pairings are suggested for a clean sleek overall look. (PS: I’m not missing the series of plaid)

I’ve compiled my favourite looks from the collection and included a breakdown swatches of the outfits. Each look follows a very simple styling pattern – combining high-contrast pieces and toping it off with an accent piece. Take note that ‘contrast’ doesn’t just mean in colour, it can also imply to fabric, texture and prints as well.
